We resurrected this site because we didn't want the years of work by Gloria Crumpler Vester and her fellow Crumpler researchers simply to be lost. Nobody has maintained it for a very long time, so many of its links no longer work — and we know. As time permits we'll go through it and tidy the broken links; volunteers are very welcome.

This site is dedicated to my wonderful father who died on July 8th, 1981 of congestive heart failure. He was a good man, a proud Merchant Marine, a loving family man. I miss you so much Daddy. This photo was taken at his favorite place in the world - Mt. Mitchell, NC, on July 3rd, 1981, the last time I saw him.

For the past year I have been doing genealogy research on my Dad's family. During my research, I discovered that my Dad was eligible for veteran status for his service in the Merchant Marine during World War II. I just received his Honorable Discharge Certificate from the U.S. Coast Guard. I have learned so much about this brave group who served their country so valiantly, but were never awarded any recognition or benefits for their efforts.
