Crumpler Family Genealogy · 1998–2010 · brought back to life in 2026

We resurrected this site because we didn't want the years of work by Gloria Crumpler Vester and her fellow Crumpler researchers simply to be lost. Nobody maintained it for many years, so a lot of its links had stopped working. We have pointed them to archived copies where any exist and marked the rest; if you spot something we missed, please tell us.

All of the family information has been carried over to our family history site, including a separate tree for Gloria's own database: Gloria Crumpler Vester's Crumpler Database · The Lucies Family History Site.

Please take the site for what it is: a slice of history, from the days of the rotary telephone, the daily newspaper and polite politics. — HMDP

Matthew Crumpler, Sr. (c1743-c1812) son of John Crumpler (?) had three sons, Matthew, Raiford and John and a daughter, Lucy, in Sampson County, North Carolina. John remained in Sampson County and Lucy went to Georgia. Does anyone know the children of Matthew and Raiford who went to Tennessee? They both served in the War of 1812 and Raiford is only found on the early records, then disappears, but the early census records for that area, Dickson County, were destroyed. I am trying to find the father of my William Crumpler b. abt 1815 who married Sarah Mason about 1836 in Tennessee. I have info on Rayford M. Crumpler, John G. Crumpler, Matthew Crumpler, and more in Dickson County, TN who would have been the children of either Matthew or Raiford from Sampson County, North Carolina. Both Matthew and Raiford were listed on the early census indexes for Sampson County, I believe 1790, 1800 and 1810. Does anyone have the info from these censuses?

I could really use some help with this as this is where I am stuck. Thanks a million. Donna
